Well, glad I'm on here, as it looks like LJ is down this morning.
Does anyone have any info?

Well - here I am on Dreamwidth.

I had the idea that I could design layouts on here, and looking through the documentation
it seems that Tabula Rasa, is the layout to work on.

Now I am fine with HTML5 and CSS for coding, and can even copy past, adapt the bits of javascript to do what i want from time to time. And I can make good looking layouts artwork banners etc in photoshop.

What I dont understand, is the S2 programming language. A long time ago I learnt and worked in object-oriented COBOL. So I should be able to get my head around this. But really I dont want to be bothered. I just want to do the design.

On Tabula Rasa we have heading, footer and content. and then the middle content is split into primary, secondary and tertiary, depending on whether it's a one, two or three column layout.

Anyway, I've sort of made my own theme layer and twiddled the CSS and set a few things at the top to make it look almost right.

There's a lot of tweaking of the headers and content still to do, and I don't know if I'll evetr have the confidence to offer the finished job for public use.

At the end of the day. It's been a good exercise to bring me back into the coding/designing state of mind.

When I make my own websites. I validate them using the W3schools validator for HTML and CSS. But S2 doesn't work with those standards. Non-blog websites are so easy.

Look at the perfection of Zen Garden.

*sigh*

I wonder if wordpress works any differently?

Each new launch is amazing, and I hold my breath till they're safely into orbit.

Good luck to the brave crew. May they return home safely.

Happy Summer Solstice blessings to all my LJ/DW friends.

To Summer

O thou who passest thro' our valleys in
Thy strength, curb thy fierce steeds, allay the heat
That flames from their large nostrils! thou, O Summer,
Oft pitched'st here thy golden tent, and oft
Beneath our oaks hast slept, while we beheld
With joy thy ruddy limbs and flourishing hair.

Beneath our thickest shades we oft have heard
Thy voice, when noon upon his fervid car
Rode o'er the deep of heaven; beside our springs
Sit down, and in our mossy valleys, on
Some bank beside a river clear, throw thy
Silk draperies off, and rush into the stream:
Our valleys love the Summer in his pride.

Our bards are fam'd who strike the silver wire:
Our youth are bolder than the southern swains:
Our maidens fairer in the sprightly dance:
We lack not songs, nor instruments of joy,
Nor echoes sweet, nor waters clear as heaven,
Nor laurel wreaths against the sultry heat.

THE TRUE DRAGON

St George was out walking

He met a dragon on a hill,

It was wise and wonderful

Too glorious to kill

It slept amongst the wild thyme

Where the oxlips and violets grow

Its skin was a luminous fire

That made the English landscape glow

Its tears were England’s crystal rivers

Its breath the mist on England’s moors

Its larder was England’s orchards,

Its house was without doors

St George was in awe of it

It was a thing apart

He hid the sleeping dragon

Inside every English heart

So on this day let’s celebrate

England’s valleys full of light,

The green fire of the landscape

Lakes shivering with delight

Let’s celebrate St George’s Day,

The dragon in repose;

The brilliant lark ascending,

The yew, the oak, the rose

Brian Patten

I think that's something for everyone. And [livejournal.com profile] mel_the_elf is underway.

Now Rob, me and the rest of the family have all gone down with a cold, so I'm dosing up with choc and wine and heading for bed. *aaachooo!*

I will be making versions with 'Easter' on them, and the one I've used here will be available with either title at [livejournal.com profile] juicy_grapes community.

Please keep the name you'd like on these short due to space. And let me know whether you'd like Ostara or Easter.

These were fun to make, and I've made you all two each, as they were all on the same PSD file.
Also some extra for friends, just cos I was at it. :)

The daffodil is the logo of the Marie Curie Nurses appeal. Marie Curie Nurses care for terminally ill people in their own homes. Also there are 10 Marie Curie Hospices in the UK.

Hugs, to all my friends who cheered me up yesterday. I though today I'd try to share a bit of Luuurve in return. ♥

These were from last year. I've finally uploaded them to photobucket. Some of you already have some with your names on, but if there are any you'd like please use them.

This is a new fandom, and I don't know whether it's aired in the states yet. It went out on BBC1 Saturday primetime family slot in the Autumn, and had a hard job replacing Dr Who which was on before.

I watched because as a LOTR fan I was naturally interested in Merlin and Arthurian Legend.

Details pics and fic rec )

If you haven't seen it, the website and pics are here.
(The magick pages are totally nutty, but may be good for your youngest brother, son, grandson.)

I have a fic to rec for anyone who'd like a starter. No NC17. Just a gentle intro to the relationship of characters.

I thought this was neatly thought out and well written. Good as a short introduction.

Fic: Safeguard (Merlin, Arthur/Merlin, PG-13) by [livejournal.com profile] solarcat05

PS. The series isn't yet out in the States. US folk should get over to [livejournal.com profile] merlin_us.
Here's what [livejournal.com profile] solarcat05 has to say about it:
"We've got all the eps as well as the DVD extras and other goodies, plus we're busily planning fan meetups in various regions, and we're always glad to have new USA-based fans join the party! =D"

Sounds good!
